Who Are We?

Tzemach Institute for Biblical Studies is associated with Fellowship Church, located in Casselberry, Florida, near Orlando. It was started in 1979 by Pastor Ken Garrison. The purpose of the Institute is to prepare and equip students who have a desire and calling to enter into God's work. The Institute will provide the student with the necessary training in Biblical studies as well as practical applications through one-on-one discipleship program.

Course Objective

Many Christians today experience great difficulty in grasping the real roots of their faith. Few understand the relationship of various sections of the Scriptures such as the Torah, the Writings, the Prophets and the Messianic Gospels. There is little understanding among followers of Jesus as to their role alongside the Jewish people. The Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) are treated as merely a long preface to the New Testament rather than inspired Scripture. The doctrines set forth by the institutional (Constantinian) Church leave much to be desired and in many cases are patently un-Scriptural.

How can we overcome these problems? Jesus said "Is this not the reason you are mistaken, that you do not understand the Scriptures, or the power of God?" (Mark 12.24). Only by a systematic and comprehensive study of all Scripture can we be confident of our understanding of what God is doing. Such understanding, coupled with a Spirit-filled walk in the Lord, enables the believer to become truly fruitful.

The objective of this course of study is to assist the Spirit-filled believer in attaining a comprehensive and practical knowledge of Scripture. The systematic revelation of God is considered from Genesis to Revelation. A Biblical or pre-Constantinian view is developed. The student learns to view Scripture from a first century Hebraic view comparable to that held by Jesus Himself. The student that has completed this course of study should be able to confidently teach from any portion of the Scripture, develop lesson plans on any Biblical topic, develop an individual system of Biblical teaching and, in general, relate the wealth of knowledge, wisdom and revelation found in Scripture to specific counseling situations.

One final objective of this study is to help followers of Jesus relate properly to Israel. We live in a very significant era when these people are being used in a mighty way in God's redemptive work. For the first time in centuries, the Jewish people have conquered their land, Eretz Israel, and their city, Jerusalem. Most church doctrines essentially eliminate Israel from any active involvement in God's plan because they were formulated at a time when Israel was dispersed and Jerusalem was under Gentile control. Since this is no longer true, we must consider Scripture in the light of the reality of our day. As we do, we begin to understand the perfect and beautiful relationship between Jesus and the Jewish people and become available to God in hastening His work in the world through Israel.

The Tzemach Institute for Biblical Studies has been authorized by the State Board of Independent Colleges and Universities to operate in the State of Florida as a religious non-public institution. The degree program of the Institute is designed soley for religious vocation in the field of ministry. Employment in certain areas may be regulated by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulations (e.g. counseling and social work). Additionally, the degree of Bachelor of Biblical Studies awarded by the Institute does not prepare the student to teach in a public school.

Our Name

Tzemach graphic logo "Tzemach" is the Hebrew word for Branch. We chose the name "Tzemach" because of the prophecy recorded in Jeremiah where the Lord says: "... will raise to David a Branch [Tzemach] ..." (23:5). Additionally, the prophet Zechariah records the following: "Behold the Man whose name is Branch [Tzemach] ..." (6:12). We believe these both refer to Messiah Yeshua (the Hebrew name for Jesus). In 586 BCE, the throne of David was cut off by Babylon but it sprouted again in Messiah Jesus. In similar fashion, the message of Jesus — the Kingdom of God — was cut off by institutional Christianity. Today, with the re-gathering of Israel to the Land, the message is sprouting forth again. Hence, our Lord Jesus is the unique promised Tzemach and the teaching of our Institute is likewise a tzemach.
