Week ending Shabbat, August 5, 2006 11 Av, 5766

Los Angeles Supports Israel:
This past week another solidarity movement was held in Los Angeles, California. The honored guest for this rally was Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He stated that all of California stands with Israel and its right to defend itself against terrorism. The Mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa, also made an appearance and blamed Hezbollah, Hamas, Iran and Syria for this problem and encouraged Israel to its right to defend herself.

All non-Muslims barred from Temple Mount on Tisha B'Av:
The Israeli Supreme Court earlier this week made the decision to allow the "Temple Mount Faithful" organization to ascend to the mount on Tisha B'av during normal hours for non-muslims, but the group's founder, Gershon Solomon, was to be barred. Arab MKs Ibrahim Sarsour and Abbas Zkoor made specific threats concerning the decision resulting in Jerusalem policed barring not only Temple Mount Faithful members, but also all non-Muslims. They said the decision was precautionary and out of concern over the potential for violent clashes between Temple mount Faithful activist and Muslim protestors. The sheik Raed Delah told Israel Radio that the Supreme Court does not have authority to rule on the matter "because Israel does not have sovereignty over the [Temple Mount]" and called on all Muslims to flock to the Al Aqsa Mosque to confront Jewish worshipers.

Tisha B'av [the ninth day of the Hebrew month of Av - this year on the Gregorian calendar was August 3] is a day of fasting for Jews around the world since it commemorates the calamities that have come upon the Israelis throughout their history on that same date, including the destruction of both the First and Second Temples on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

Information on the Three Kidnapped Soldiers:
Vice Premier Shimon Peres visited this past week with the wife of kidnapped soldier Ehud Goldwasser [pictured right]. Peres said the two taken captive in Lebanon as well as Gilad Shalit taken in Gaza are safe and sound. He stated that he is also convinced that the Soldiers will return home soon. The father of Kidnapped Solider Shlomo Goldwasser stated that he soon expects information from the Red Cross concerning his son.

Editor's note: In my opinion Shimon Peres is poison for Israel. He is at best delusional and usually completely wrong. He said last weekend on U.S. television that he believes that Hezbollah will just go away. We certainly hope he is right about these young men, but based upon his track record we have difficulty seeing him as a credible source.

IDF Video of Brothers at Arms:
Please see the linked video from the "Gamla Shall Not Fall Again" organization. They represent the Golan Heights region captured in the 1967 war. Their website recently posted this special video showing the Israeli Defense Force [IDF] at work. This is a video with some material that would not be appropriate for small children.
