Week ending Shabbat, June 10, 2006 14 Sivan, 5766

Hundreds of Thousands Gather in Manhattan:
A parade of more than one hundred thousand marched up New York City's Fifth Avenue. Another 100,000 spectators enjoyed marching bands, floats, and countless Israeli flags lining the street. During and following the parade some 20,000 people found their way into the standing room-only Summerstage concert venue in Central Park [Fifth Avenue borders the east side of Central Park]. Those spectators were treated to the annual Israel Day Concert, traditionally supporting right-wing Jewish causes. The concert was broadcast live on Arutz Sheva's IsraelNationalRadio at IsraelNationalRadio.com. The theme of the event was support for the Jewish communities in the Biblical provinces of Judea and Samaria. These communities are currently threatened by Ehud Olmert's proposed "realignment" plan, which calls for the forced expulsion of nearly 100,000 Jews living in the regions, along with the destruction of dozens of established communities.

Nuke Bombing 25th Anniversary:
Wednesday [June 7] was the 25th anniversary of the bombing of Iraq's nuclear plant by Israeli defense forces. At that time officials stated that the sight would have been ready to produce atomic weapons within ten weeks. The attack was a success and completely destroyed the reactor. The whole world condemned the action [including the United States]. Prime Minister Menachem Begin had authorized the missions with opposition from then minority leader Shimon Peres. In 1991, a photograph was handed to the man who served in 1981 as head of Israel's Air Force, David Ivry. The photo showed the bombed Osirak reactor, and included a hand-written note on the bottom: "With thanks and appreciation. You made our job easier in Desert Storm." It was signed: Dick Cheney.

Al-Zarqawi Mourned by "Palestinians":
Later in the week the United States sought out and killed the Al-Qaeda leader in Iraq, Al-Zarqawi. The US Air Force dropped two lazar guided 500 pound bombs, the first to blow up the building and the second to make it count. This was looked upon as a severe blow to terrorism locally and internationally. Yet, Israels so-called "peace partners", the "Palestinians" mourned this terrorist death. An official announcement mourning the death of the Al-Qaeda member known as Al-Zarqawi stated that he was a great "jihad warrior" who was killed by "crusaders" on Islamic homeland territory. "Palestinians" held demonstrations demanding revenge for the killing of Al-Zarqawi and justice to be brought to his killers.

Rolling Policeman:
Samuel German has volunteered now for over thirty years as a civil guard. He patrols bus stations and chases people on his roller blades. He has recently turned 80, and has no intention of stopping any time soon. "I have a greater advantage than policemen in patrol cars. I can catch thieves much faster," said German. "God willing, I will work until my 120th birthday. As long as I have the strength, I will serve my people!"

Land of Milk and Honey:
Israeli cows are the "number one" dairy producing cows in the world. Israel gets 10,000 liters a year out of the average cow. Dutch cows are the second largest producers of milk at 8,193 liters, surpassing even cows in the United States, which came in a close third at 8,162. The most recent figures for worldwide milk production are from the year 2003, showing an average of 6,455 liters for cows in the European Union. Israeli cows produce about 94 percent of the volume of milk with sheep producing 3.6 percent and goat's milk producing 2.3 percent for Israel dairy farms. Israeli honey also continues to flow with an output of around 3,200 tons of the velvety liquid gold last year. This means that the average Israeli consumed a little over one pound of honey per person over the past year.
