Rain, Rain, Rain…and more Rain:
Rain fell in Israel this week at an historic rate. In the last one hundred fifty years it has not rained so much in such a short amount of time. This first week of April nearly four inches of rain fell in one night in Jerusalem and within a total ten-hour period twenty percent of the necessary annual rain fell. These showers were unexpected but a welcome surprise. The Sea of Galilee rose to a measure of 210.8, which is two meters below the level required for adequate yearly water supply. The sudden rain caught many people and some were even stranded, but in Israel rain is always welcomed. Rain, after all, is a blessing.
Israeli Bank Cuts Ties with "PA":
Hapoalim, Israel’s leading bank, is cutting its ties with "Palestinian" banks. Since Hamas has taken the leadership position, the "Palestinian" Authority [PA] government has seen most of its financial aid dry up. The PA government uses Israeli banks to convert their money so that they can pay their 140,000 employees each month. Most PA banks were advised to withdraw their money from Israeli banks out of the fear that western countries might impose sanctions. The "PA" Foreign Minister criticized the Israeli Banks for cutting off ties, stating that, "The banks which won't deal with us will lose because we have all the legitimate channels to receive funds."
Cancer Patients consider Lemon Grass plants:
Researchers at the University of Ben Gurion of the Negev [southern Israel] have found that the herbs found in the lemon grass kills cancer cells, but leaves surrounding healthy cells unharmed. "Citral" is the key component that gives the plant its lemon aroma. Dr. Rivka Ofir identified that their studies have found that Citral causes the cancer cells to commit suicide. One gram of Lemon grass in a drink is enough to trigger this reaction. These findings were published in the Planta Medical, a scientific journal that highlights alternative and herbal remedies. Doctors agree that more exploration is needed, but some have referred this information to those looking to fight the cancer on a different front. They have been encouraged to continue their normal kemo therapy and add this into their battle against the disease.
Nefesh b'Nefesh-aliyah Group Expands:
The Nefesh b’Nefesh [soul of the soul] organization has assisted Jews from primarily North America to make Alyiha [go up] to Israel. They have faithfully assisted in seminars to address difficulties such as finding jobs, housing, and many other issues. They also have assisted new immigrants with overcoming financial, social, and employment obstacles. They have been at least partially responsible for more than ninety nine percent of the 7,000 new Israeli citizens in being able to make the move and stay. More than all of this is that they are starting to expand their operation. They have recently moved into England and France to assist Jews in leaving the exile and going home. They have chosen to make the operational expansion because of overwhelming requests to do so. This is looked upon as a completely natural progression for this group. They have been given many blessings from rabbis in these new areas.
