Israel Unveils Hi-Tech Airport Security:
Engineers are testing a new, hi-tech lie-detector system designed to identify potential airport terrorists and airline hijackers. The system catches liars by measuring emotions expressed in their voices. Currently being tested at a Moscow airport the system will cost between $10,000 and $30,000. Unlike regular polygraph testing, it works without with out touch the individual in question. The voice analyzer picks up uncontrollable tremors in speech and can also identify emotions such as fear and love. The first step in the test takes between 30-75 seconds. If the machine shows doubts about a person, they are taken aside by guards for an intensive search and questioning.
Israel Welcomes Majorca's Crypto-Jews:
The Jewish people of Majorca are preparing for a seminar aimed at strengthening the Jewish community on the small island located near Spain, and reaching out to their large crypto-Jewish population. This event is being planned by Shavei Israel, a Jerusalem-based group that assists "lost Jews" seeking to return to the Jewish people. "Majorca's Jews suffered terrible persecution over the centuries. As far back as the 1300s, the island was the scene of horrific massacres and forced conversions," said Shavei Israel Chairman Michael Freund. Nonetheless, Freund continued, many of those forced to convert continued to practice Judaism in secret, at great peril to their lives and well-being. Even though they are professing to be Catholic, Majorca’s crypto-Jews were never fully accepted by their Christian neighbors, who referred to them derogatorily as "Chueta", meaning "pigs". It is believed that there are 10-15,000 identifiable "Chuetas" now living on the island. A growing number of Majorca’s crypto-Jews have begun seeking to reclaim their Jewish roots in recent years. Several have moved to Israel, where they have formally returned to Judaism or are in the process of doing so. "Hundreds of years after their ancestors were compelled to convert, a Jewish awakening is taking place among the 'Chuetas' of Majorca", said Freund. "It is now our responsibility to help them to come home again."
Israel strikes back at Hizbollah:
The Israeli air force (IAF) fired on Hizbollah outposts in southern Lebanon following a series of Katyushka attacks into northern Israel. Hizbollah had also attempted kidnapping Israeli soldiers. The situation left nineteen Israelis wounded and five Hizbollah members dead. Residents of the northern town of Kiryat Shmona and neighboring communities were evacuated to shelters on Monday but the town returned to normal on Tuesday. Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz said he expects more abduction attempts in the near future.
Recent IDF Recruit A Hero:
Paratrooper David Markovitz joined the Israeli army only eight months ago, but that didn't keep him from single handedly killed four Hizbollah terrorists on Monday who were attempting to kidnap soldiers near the border village of Rajar. Lieutenant Colonel Yaniv Elaluf identified that "The soldiers spotted four terrorists dressed in black, and moving in an orderly fashion toward the roadblock. Behind them the soldiers noticed jeeps and motorcycles - logistic support for the abduction operation. The group was carrying an antitank missile, which was ready to be launched. Markovitz calmly conducted precise shooting," hitting and killing all four would-be kidnappers. All four Hizbollah members were found to be heavily armed.
Israel Captures Senior Jihad Terrorist:
After an all-day seige in Jenin on Thursday, Iyad Abu A-Roub, the most senior member of the Islamic Jihad, surrendered (rather than choosing martyrdom) to Israeli soldiers. The terrorists fired at the soldiers from the house, but when bulldozers began to push in the walls of the building, they surrendered. IDF soldiers found weapons and night-vision equipment inside the house. Three soldiers were lightly injured in the exchange of fire. The "Palestinian" Authority reported that 11 Arabs were wounded. Abu A-Roub was responsible for the most recent terror attack last month in a Hadera marketplace where six Israelis were killed. He also is responsible for the attack outside the Stage Club in Tel Aviv last February where five Israelis were murdered, and the July suicide bombing at a HaSharon mall in Netanya where five others were killed. Security sources identified that he was planning more attacks when he was arrested.
Urgent Request from Arieh Zaritsky:
It is crucial, both for Israel and for the future of Jewish education in the
USA, for each and every American Jew to register NOW to vote in the so-called World Zionist Congress. WZO has tremendous political prestige and controls (directly and indirectly) very large Jewish education, aliya and settlement budgets (between $350,000 and $1 billion). Four years ago, the extreme left (Reform, Meretz, Peace Now) grabbed half of the votes simply because they registered people diligently. Let's follow their example this time. In the previous elections, less than 15 percent of the United States' 6 million
Jews voted. Conclusion: For some strange reason, nobody knows about this, which
is a pity, because every vote counts. Please therefore:
* Register and vote NOW (American Jews).
* Forward this message NOW to all relevant American Jewish friends and relatives!
* From now until 15 February, remind several people OFTEN, to register for the vote.
The best slates for pro-Israel, pro-Yahadut people to vote are either for the
Religious Zionists or for one of the hawkish slates: Herut, Zionists of America
or for the only slightly hawkish (did NOT oppose Gush Katif scheme) Likud. To register for the vote, please urgently visit https://www.escvote.com/azm2005/default.asp?locid=azm
(general registration website) or any one of the following sites (in order of size):
Some of you may find that the above slates are less hawkish & less Land
of Israel oriented than you’d like to see. DON'T WORRY -- VOTE ANYWAY! but leave your name, place of residence and email address with mattot.arim@gmail.com so that we can organize a significant grass-roots follow-up after the elections.
Remember -- anything is better than not voting at all, and the above slates are far, far, far better that the reform or Meretz alternatives.
If someone who is Orthodox says "I'm not a Zionist" -- remind him
that the broad (correct) definition of "Zionist" refers simply to someone
who davens three times a day that our eyes should behold the return of the KB"H
to Zion. In other words -- if you are Orthodox, you are a Zionist by definition. The people who edited Zion out of their siddurs and their hearts were always the Reform Jews -- never the Orthodox. Nonetheless, for political reasons, the Reform community is anxious for you to think that you shouldn't vote because you're "not a Zionist". Do the right thing, tartei mashma, and register to vote despite their sentiments.
Thank you for voting and for reminding at least 20 of your American Jewish
friends to do the same. This shows that YOU do everything you can, for the Jewish people, for the only Jewish state in the world, and for the Land of Israel.
