Jewish Communities in Judea/Samaria Rapidly Expanding:
Official figures released last week identify that the Jewish population of Judea and Samaria is expanding rapidly. There are 12,800 new residents (five percent) in the past year alone bringing the Jewish population total for that region to 246,000. The so-called "West Bank" Communities are biblically the regions of Judea and Samaria (pictured in dark green). Thank G-d for those Jewish families who are moving to these communities and expect to see many more. Many of the 8,500 people from the evacuated Gaza Strip communities have been temporarily housed in these communities and may well decide to settle there permanently, giving a further boost to the population.
Setting the Record Straight:
During the disengagement, United States citizens were forced to tolerate news reporters telling us lies concerning polls in Israel and that the majority favored the disengagement. Our June 18 report clearly identified otherwise. A telephone poll, conducted last week (August 25 & 26) by IMRA,
which purposely included Israeli Arabs, identified that 41 percent believe that disengagement brings terror and not peace, while 31 percent disagreed, and 28 percent didn't know what to think. It also identified that 51 percent felt that (with the completion of the disengagement) Sharon should retire to his farm, while only 40 percent believe that he should continue in political life. The poll also identified that if Likud elections were held right now, Sharon would receive a mere 32 percent, while Netanyahu would receive 41 percent and Landau 16 percent. In a separate survey, 58.5 percent of Israelis identified that they were opposed to further disengagement, while 31.5 percent felt that it should continue.
Further Evacuations:
Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz has issued an order to evacuate a controversial Jewish neighborhood in the heart of Hevron (Hebron). The area Jewish residents refer to as the Rinat Shalhevet neighborhood and "Palestinians" call the Situnai Market, served as a "Palestinian" wholesale market until 1994. It is now home to 11 Jewish families. Slated to take place before December, the move could be among the first "West Bank" outposts dismantled in Israel's plan to remove what the government refers to as 'illegal' settlement outposts, following the retreat from the Gaza Strip and parts of northern Samaria.
Hebron community leader Noam Arnon slammed the government decision, stating, "every Jew will rise up against such a thing to take the lands of the victims of Islamic terror and give it to the murderers." He called the targeting of outposts, and especially those in Hebron, the work of a government that "is cruel and heeds no limits."
Netzartim Residents Are Moving On:
In an interview with Israel National Radio, former assistant Netzarim Mayor, Udi Zinar, said he and his neighbors shed tears for their demolished community, but are now spending most of their time looking for the next national project in which they can be participants. Zinar said he recently returned to the location of his beloved central Gaza town only to find everything had been reduced to rubble. When asked how he was handing the expulsion emotionally, Zinar calmly responded, "Aside from seeing our entire lives destroyed and our homes and jobs taken away, we are doing alright. The Jewish people cannot afford to sink into despair and we will therefore move forward," Zinar added. "People get sad and upset, but the spirit is high and we remain one community and are ready for our next mission."
The Battle Now is for Jerusalem:
"Palestinian" Authority Prime Minister and senior PLO figure, Ahmed Qurei, has announced that, following Israel's departure from Gaza, the fight for Jerusalem has now begun. At a meeting held Sunday in Al-Quds University in the Jerusalem Arab neighborhood of Abu Dis, Qurei said that the "Palestinian" Authority would now focus its attention on Jerusalem. "The fight has begun for Jerusalem, and it is a dangerous war. No Arab - Palestinian, Christian or Muslim will accept Israel's racist plans," Qurei said. Qurei insisted that President Bush pressure Israel to live up to the Bush demand of establishing a "viable" Palestinian state. "The only viable country would be with the 1967 borders," he said, "the Palestinians will not accept less than a state on the lands occupied in 1967 with Jerusalem as its capital."
Editor's note: We were told that the disengagement would result in peace. I am personally shocked at those that actually believed that lie. This is not a time to "abandon your post."
'I Grabbed The Suicide Bomber By His Hand':
Lawi Abu-Jama'a, a twenty-seven year old Bedouin* from the Negev, was one of two security guards who suffered serious injuries in a suicide bombing Sunday in Be'er Sheva's central bus station. From his hospital bed Abu-Jama said, "We ran after the suicide bomber. I called for him to stop, but he ignored us. I knew he had explosives in his bag. I grabbed his right hand. Pavel grabbed his left hand, but he managed to shake Pavel off and detonated the bomb. There was a huge blast. I fell and don't remember anything else." Abu-Jama has been hailed as a hero for preventing a lethal terror attack by stopping a suicide bomber with his body. The second hero is twenty-two-year-old Pavel Srotzkin. Both men were seriously injured. Abu-Jama will not recover sight in one eye. After they used their bodies to prevent further bloodshed, both young men know they were saved from death by a miracle.
* Although Bedouins are Islamic Arabs, they refuse the identity of "Palestinians." They are intensely loyal to the State of Israel. Jewish Israeli soldiers trust Bedouin officers to the extent that they never even question orders given. Clearly this recent act of Lawi Abu-Jama is greater evidence of the loyalty of the Bedouin community to the State of Israel.
What Goes Around, Comes Around:
Rhode Island lawyer, David Strachman, in his attempts to collect $116,000,000.00 in a terrorism judgment against the Palestinian Authority, has obtained a court-ordered freeze on all its United States based assets. Frozen assets include US holdings in a 1.3 billion dollar Palestinian investment fund (intended to finance economic development), as well as bank accounts used to pay Palestinian representatives in Washington. Also frozen are about 30 million dollars in assets from the Palestinian Monetary Authority (equivalent to the US Federal Reserve). He has also initiated a court action to seize and sell the Palestinian-owned building that serves as the Palestine Liberation Organization observer mission to the United Nations in New York. Strachman is representing the orphaned children of an Israeli couple who were killed in Israel by Palestinian militants. These actions have resulted in severely limiting most Palestinian economic and diplomatic activities in the US at a critically foundational time for the new government.
